Setting up Trimble TruckMate
1Connect TruckMate
An admin generates a TruckMate API key for Roadmark in TruckMate, and we do the setup with you.
2Map your fields
We import your customers, carriers, lanes and rates, and go through how your TruckMate fields, such as service levels, zones and charge codes, map to Roadmark's together, before anything goes live.
3Choose what syncs
Orders out to TruckMate; trips, status, stops, POD and costs back. Turn on the job you're starting with, usually quoting or tracking.
4Test with a real load
Book one order in Roadmark, check that it lands in TruckMate with its pickup, delivery, charges and references and that its status comes back, then turn it on for everything.
Before you start
- A license for the TruckMate REST API (Trimble license key 69000), which Trimble sells separately from TruckMate.
- An admin who generates a TruckMate API key for Roadmark, in TruckMate's Security Configuration application.
- Time from your IT team if you host the TruckMate API server yourself, so Roadmark can reach it.
- The job you'll run in Roadmark first, usually quoting or tracking.
How Roadmark connects to TruckMate
Trimble publishes three REST APIs for TruckMate on its developer portal: the TruckMate REST API, for transactional integration with TruckMate's major product areas, such as orders and trips; the Master Data API, for configuration data such as client, vendor and driver profiles; and the Finance API, for invoices, payments and GL entries, from TruckMate 2024.3. Roadmark's connection runs on the first one.
Trimble's access guide sets the terms. The APIs need an existing TruckMate installation and are licensed separately, under license keys 69000, 69100 and 69200. The API server can be self-hosted or managed by Trimble. Every request carries a Bearer token: a TruckMate API key generated in TruckMate, or a short-lived token from the API's Login endpoint. Roadmark uses an API key your admin generates for it in TruckMate's Security Configuration application, so the key is created and kept in your own TruckMate.
What moves each way
When an order is booked in Roadmark, it's created in TruckMate with the shipper, consignee and pickup and delivery windows, the freight details, the accessorial charges and the references as trace numbers, so it shows up in Customer Service and on the dispatch board where your team expects it. As the load moves, Roadmark reads back from TruckMate:
- the trip the order is planned on, with its drivers, power units and trailers;
- the order's status history and the trip's stops;
- the proof of delivery recorded on the order;
- carrier and interliner charges, for the cost side of the load.
Roadmark uses them for tracking, ETAs, the customer's updates and the invoice. TruckMate is built for LTL carriers and also runs truckload, intermodal and multimodal freight, according to Trimble's product page; the connection works the same way whichever of those an order is.
What moves, and what stays in TruckMate
While Roadmark runs one job, everything else carries on in TruckMate. You choose what moves next, and when.
Your ELD, your books and EDI with your customers stay connected either way. A group whose companies run different systems, one on TruckMate and another on McLeod or TMW.Suite, connects each company on its own.
Moving off TruckMate, when you choose
When a company is ready, it moves one job, division or lane at a time, or never. Its TruckMate history stays readable after a job moves, so last year's loads are still there to look up.
Read how switching TMS one job at a time works, and how Roadmark compares with Trimble's TMS lines, TruckMate included, if you're weighing a full move. For TMW.Suite, see the Trimble TMW integration.

Questions about Trimble TruckMate and Roadmark
Which TruckMate API does Roadmark use?
The TruckMate REST API, which Trimble publishes on its developer portal for transactional integration with TruckMate. It covers orders, trips, stops, status history, PODs and carrier and interliner charges, which is everything this connection reads and writes. Trimble licenses it separately from TruckMate, under license key 69000.
Do we need the Master Data or Finance API too?
Not for this connection. Trimble's Master Data API covers configuration data such as client, vendor and driver profiles, and its Finance API, from TruckMate 2024.3, covers invoices, payments and GL entries. Each is licensed separately. Orders, status, POD and costs all come through the TruckMate REST API.
How does Roadmark sign in to TruckMate?
With a TruckMate API key that your admin generates in TruckMate's Security Configuration application, on the TruckMate API Credentials tab. Roadmark sends it as a Bearer token with every request, as Trimble's access guide describes.
Do we have to leave TruckMate to use Roadmark?
No. Most companies start by running one job in Roadmark beside TruckMate, usually quoting or tracking, and move the rest over on their own schedule: a company, division or lane at a time, or never.
Does dispatch change for our team?
No. Orders still land in TruckMate, so dispatchers keep planning trips in Dispatch or Multi Mode Dispatch as they do today, and driver settlements run in TruckMate as they do now. Nothing is typed twice.
What does running beside TruckMate cost?
You pay for the jobs you switch on in Roadmark, at the companies they cover. Jobs that keep running in TruckMate cost nothing in Roadmark, and there's no per-user fee. The TruckMate REST API license is Trimble's, priced by Trimble.
